The life and laughs of Ella

Today I am really hungry. Here you can see me just after I finished my afternoon feeding - 56cc no less!
And I have so much energy I stayed awake after feeding for 1/2 an hour at least, until father sang me to sleep. Well, I know his singing is not too much to write about, but I like it.

I had some before lunch but after breakfast. Just 35cc this time, but I am very sleepy, so I think I will nap now. Father said I can sleep on his lap. Wow, I must be the luckiest baby in the whole wide world.

Oh, I can't go to sleep just yet, first I have to burp or so they tell me. If it was me, I would just drop and sleep, but have to make them happy. OK, stand by, here it comes...

This was such a good meal, but now I think I had just about enough. I want to sleep until it is time for lunch. Daddy told me that friends brought them all sorts of food to help out. I can taste the difference...

Mother is feeding me extras with a bottle so I don't get too tired, and I can eat all my rations. Breakfast yummy...

Before mommy feeds me they weigh me to make sure I get enough milk. Currently I am on a fattening diet of at least 35cc per feeding, every 3 hours. This time I will show them that I want to grow up and go home so I will eat 46cc.

Mother said I should also have a picture of all of us together. One happy family. So here we all are. Mother is holding me, and father can't stop smiling. He has been that way ever since I was born.

Mother has the best milk, and I hope soon to not need this formula. Mommy is upset that she cannot spend more time with me, but there is a good side too. I have 24 hour nurses taking care of me, so she can take some breaks and get some sleep every so often, and get stronger so she can take care of me. Papa too. He is taking care of both of us right now, lucky he could take the time off from work for a few weeks...

Ok, maybe I will wake up after all. Mommy really wants to feed me, and the nurses only give us 20 minutes for breastfeeding. After that I have to feed from the bottle so I can grow up and go home.

Here is what my new crib looks like. It is just about time to wake for lunch, but I feel so sleepy...

August 29

Ok, so no new pictures today, as my parents were too busy trying to feed me.
I am finally out from under the lights, and in an open crib. I even get to sleep for a while on dad's lap. Mother looks really tired, but I am more awake today, and feeding much better.

August 28

August 28, and I just ate. See, I can even rhyme... They took off the IV that they had on me to hydrate me while I was sleeping under the lights, so I expect to be out of the improvised beachfront motel tonight.

August 27

Here you can see me with my mommy. Note the NICU logo in the background, and the nice rocking chair. It is still august 27.

Aug 27, and I am in the NICU. I am rather small, and they decided to put me in phototherapy for Jaundice. This is like suntanning for babies. You can even see a bit of the shades in the picture. Awsome.

Creation

This blog will be all about the life of our newborn baby Ella.
The name comes from hebrew and is pronounced El-la, with the inflection on the second syllable. It means either the Terebinth tree, or a goddess.
